My SS is below average, FJB purposed COLA raise will barely cover utilities and food. Income, and wages back when we were working were low. Retirements didn't exist or were low, and have not grown well. We lived on credit. USN didn't and still doesn't pay well. You move a lot, Base housing was for Brass. Hub held down a 2nd job when he was on shore duty. Constant base changes doesn't allow spouses to build up much in pay, or SS. Not till the last of the kids fled the nest did we get extra to pay off those CCs, and car payments.
